Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

The Friends of the American Library Karlsruhe (Freunde der Amerikanischen Bibliothek Karlsruhe, e.V.) take the protection of your personal data very seriously.

The following gives an overview of how your personal data is collected and used, and how we ensure the protection of your data is in compliance with the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

2. Personal data collection

Personal data is information about you, which includes your name, address, telephone number or email address. The use of this website does not require disclosing personal data.

If you use our contact forms, you are providing us with your personal data (name, email address).

The web hosting provider collects and stores information that your browser automatically transmits (e.g. your IP address, visited websites, browser and operating system used, date and time of access, search engines used, name of downloaded files). This information is used by the web hosting provider to ensure proper functionality of the website.

We would like to point out that the transmission of data over the Internet (e.g. in email communications) may be prone to security gaps. It is not possible to completely protect data against third party access.

3. How we use your personal data

If you have contacted us through the contact formula, your personal data (name and email address) is kept as long as needed to respond to your inquiry.

If you are signing up for our mailing list ("Spelling Bee"), your data is used to send you information about the event "Spelling Bee." You may ask to be removed from the mailing list at any time.

We do not sell or otherwise market your personal information to third parties.

4. Links to other websites

This website contains external links to third party websites. The responsibility for the content of these websites and the compliance with data protection legislation rests with the operators of these websites. The external links will be opened in a new browser window and the new URL address is displayed.

In addition, you have the right to correct incorrect data or to delete data that is not permitted or no longer necessary. 7. Cookies

We use cookies on this website. Cookies do not harm your computer nor do they contain viruses. A "cookie" is a small piece of information that a website assigns to your device while you are viewing a website. Cookies are very helpful and can be used for various purposes. These purposes include allowing you to navigate between pages efficiently, enable automatic activation of certain features, remembering your preferences and making the interaction between you and the website quicker and easier.

Cookies do not contain any information that personally identifies you, but personal information that we store about you may be linked, by us, to the information stored in and obtained from cookies. You may remove the cookies by following the preference instructions of your device; however, if you choose to disable cookies, some features of our website may not operate properly and your online experience may be limited.

8. Use of script libraries (Google Web Fonts)

In order to present our contents correctly and graphically appealing across all browsers, we use script libraries and font libraries such as Google Web Fonts (https://www.google.com/webfonts) on this website. Google Web Fonts are transferred to your browser's cache to avoid multiple loading. If your browser does not support Google Web Fonts or does not allow access, content will be displayed in a default font.

Calling script libraries or font libraries automatically triggers a connection to the library operator. In theory, it is possible - but currently also unclear whether and, if so, for what purposes - that operators of corresponding libraries collect data.

The privacy policy of the library operator Google can be found here: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy.

9. Updates or amendments to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to periodically amend or revise the Privacy Policy; material changes will be effective immediately upon the display of the revised Privacy policy. The last revision will be reflected in the "Last modified" section. Your continued use of the Platform, following the notification of such amendments on our website, constitutes your acknowledgment and consent of such amendments to the Privacy Policy and your agreement to be bound by the terms of such amendments.
